The Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research defines hoarding as ” the excessive collection of items, along with the inability to discard them” (2012). Hoarding is a serious problem. It can affect not only an individual, but also those around them. If you or someone you know has a hoarding problem, please take the time to get to know what resources are available. A small problem can get out of hand before you know it and become overwhelming. Sometimes we could all use a little help. There are many degrees and types of hoarding. It is important to know what hoarding is and to be aware of the warning signs. If things goes to far, it can be dangerous for the hoarder and their friends, family, neighbors, or even pets. Use this site as a guide to find resources that can give you advice or point you in the right direction. By no means is this a definitive source or a substitution for speaking one on one with a professional.
